Why complete NLP Practitioner with GWiz NLP?

GWiz NLP
Some of our students getting ready to start their NLP journey

If you are thinking about training in NLP, I am guessing that you are considering carefully as this is a big investment both in terms of your time and financially. To help you make this decision I want to share with you some reasons why GWiz NLP is a good choice.

Before you read some of the practical reasons to choose GWiz NLP here, in her own words are some reflections from a recent student:

“I joined the NLP training just over a year ago. In that year I have completely transformed into a different person. From someone who suffered with regular anxiety and disbelief in my self, my self worth was at rock bottom and I really didn’t know how to move on.

The training was the most life changing training I have ever received. Techniques in NLP are easy to understand and once you start to adapt them into your everyday life, you notice how you start to feel differently about yourself and other people notice that there is a positive change within you.

I would recommend the NLP training for anyone, not only have I learnt how to change my life so much for the better, I also made a great new friendship circle where we all share the positive changes. NLP training is actually really simple to adapt into your or anyone else’s life.”

Did you know that when you learn something new your self-esteem gets a boost?

GWiz NLP
What could you learn this week?

This week I’m going to keep it short as I’m busy preparing for the NLP Conference which starts on Friday. Thinking about the Conference and looking at the programme reminded me of the value of learning as a way to boost your self-esteem.

This makes learning another form of self-care. This is boosted further when you learn with others. The social element creates a positive affect and a sense of belonging.  When the learning is a little challenging you also get the additional benefit of feelings of accomplishment and success.

We recently completed an NLP Practitioner Training spread over several months. The students really bonded and supported each other. On the evaluation days some of the students felt anxious. After the results were announced the feelings of success were even greater.

Have you ever had that experience?

Take a moment to review what learning opportunities you have given yourself recently.

You could choose to learn a new hobby, learn a language or learn a practical skill. What about starting some academic studies? You could even start a journey of self-discovery such as NLP Practitioner or beyond.

Some of our new students recorded some reflections on their experience. Click the link to find out more.

Next week I’ll be at the NLP Conference so will get back to you the week after.

Who are the people who surround you? Do they nourish you or do they drain you?

GWiz NLP
Find people who lift your spirits

Although this series is about self-care there is an inter-personal aspect to your well-being that I would like to highlight to you this week.

I wonder, have you considered how much the people you spend time with have an impact on your well-being and your ability to stay resilient?

The relationships you engage in regularly will have a direct influence on your energy levels and your general sense of self. This may not surprise you and yet have you ever stopped to check.

Are the people you spend the most time with:

  • Critical of you and your life.
  • An emotional drain.
  • Needy and demanding.
  • Easily offended and reactionary.
  • Aggressive either to you or in your company to others.
  • Have a negative mindset.

If you answered “yes” to even one or two of the characteristics above the chances are you will feel drained and unhappy after spending time with such people.

So perhaps it is time to change who you spend time with!

I wonder how many of you feel uncomfortable about this suggestion? If you do it will be because you have a value that feels ignored. Maybe loyalty is important to you or kindness. It may be some other value of a similar nature.

I can understand that reaction and yet for your own health it is worth thinking about how much time you spend with people who sap your energy.

Have you applied the above list to yourself, do those characteristic also apply to you? Or maybe they used to. Either way, if you are now committed to self-care practice I recommend you begin widening your circle of friends to include people who:

  • Laugh and smile a lot.
  • Are kind and encouraging.
  • Motivate you and others.
  • Demonstrate that they care about you
  • Are good at turning conflict into conversation
  • Have a growth mindset.
  • Lift your spirits.

Begin by adopting the above behaviours yourself so that you are the kind of person others want to spend time with in order to feel good. Secondly, begin connecting with people who lift your spirits.

You may need to do your homework to find out where these people can be found. May be joining a class or hobby group, maybe going to networking events or social gatherings. In all of these places you will find people who fit both the lists above so be selective.

Positive people are good for your well-being

One of the easiest ways to start building your new positive network is to sign up to a personal development course such as NLP Practitioner. You are likely to find other people looking for the same thing plus others who already have a genuine positive attitude to life.

As you build your new positive supportive network you may find that some of your old friends will welcome the change in you and begin their own journeys of transformation. There may be others you choose to limit your time with or gently let go of.

Remember you have choice and you deserve happiness, well-being and resilience. You can only be responsible for yourself. Become that person that lifts the spirits of others, I know you can do it.

What are Limiting Beliefs and can they be changed?

Have you ever noticed how you hold yourself back from certain things? Sometimes these will be tasks or activities you know logically that you are capable of and yet there is another part of you that is convinced you will never succeed.

Perhaps even more challenging are those personal things you think about yourself as a person that on one level you know they are not true and yet emotionally you hold a conviction that they are fact.

The above are just two examples of limiting beliefs. Often we do not label them as beliefs because we think they are “concrete facts”.

We will defend these limitations, arguing that we have evidence to support these “truths”. On a more positive level we will do the same thing about empowering beliefs we hold about ourselves, others and the world.

Usually it is far easier to spot when someone else is clinging to a limiting belief. We will hear them make a statement about themselves or their abilities that we, the observer, would challenge. We are often able to present counter evidenceand yet the other person is unable to accept even the most well intentioned, gentle and kind feedback.

So, if you want to identify some of your own limiting beliefs, stop for a moment and consider, where in your life have others tried to offer you counter evidence about self-stated truths about you?

There are other ways to track down your limiting beliefs and sometimes we need the help of a skilled professional.

If you want to understand a little bit more about how limiting beliefs are created download my free audio click here.

This audio is a two hour segment from a workshop I ran with 60 people research “Does NLP improve Self-Esteem?” This was part of my research dissertation for my Masters Degree in Applied Positive Psychology and you will be pleased to know the evidence was “yes it does”.

You will also be able to join in with an exercise from NLP that is designed to help you shift that limiting belief and swap it for an Empowering Self Belief that will allow you to shine.

If you are ready to transform your life it might be time to enrol on our NLP PractitionerProgramme and start your own journey of change. Our programme is spread over 4 modules each of 4 days giving you time consolidate both your learning and your transformation.

If you are still not quite sure you can join us for a taster day for just £19.95. This fee covers the costs and is deducted from your invoice when you sign up for either the NLP Diploma or the full NLP Practitioner Training.

Our next one is on 21stJune and there is an alternate date of 21stAugust. Do join us and start making those important changes today!

I am also available for individual sessions using NLP, Hypnotherapy, Core Transformations, the Wholeness Process, Positive Psychology and Transactional Analysis.

Calibrating vulnerability in clients or students as an NLP Trainer or Practitioner

As an NLP Trainer or NLP Practitioner, our ability to recognise vulnerability in our students or clients is a key skill set. So exactly how do you do it while running courses such as NLP Practitioner? This is just as important for the NLP Practitioner, Hypnotherapist and Therapist when working one to one with clients.

One place to start is with a conscious decision to start calibrating a baseline for each student or client. We teach calibration skills on our entry level NLP Training and this is started on the free one day training workshop. This calibration includes processing visual, auditory and kinaesthetic signals from the client.

With larger groups this can be challenging just in terms of sheer numbers. Perhaps a more manageable approach would be to calibrate baselines for the group. As a student moves into a state of vulnerability there will be a ripple effect particularly in those seated nearby.

The baseline is critical because changes in state vary vastly both on the individual level and in terms of group processes. Where one person withdraws and internalises, another may become loud, while yet another response may be to become rigidly controlled. When calibrating the group, you are becoming sensitive to the waves and flow of what becomes a collective consciousness that may match the individual signs or not.

You might recognise that a student is becoming vulnerable by signs of rapport breakdown and separation from others. Or conversely you may see an increased rapport as group members nearby experience unconscious empathy that can be seen as physiological shifts.

The examples above are just that, examples. As an NLP Trainer or NLP Practitioner, remember to stay connected to the concept of NLP as the study of subjective behaviour.

Where should an NLP Practitioner put the boundaries in practice?

One of the things I love about teaching NLP is the enthusiasm I see in my students. They are often excited about how they can make a difference and help others. This is wonderful to see and the energy is very positive.

That said, I also take great care to caution my graduate NLP Practitioners to be careful about drawing their boundaries and making smart choices about who they work with.

Students practicing in our beautiful grounds. Hypnotising hypnotists
Students practicing in our beautiful grounds. Hypnotising hypnotists

What do I mean by that?

People seek out NLP Practitioners for many reasons and sometimes there are warning bells that new Practitioners need to take care to heed. Firstly, in terms of scope. While NLP is a very powerful tool and can help most people, some things take more experience than others to deal with.

For example, if a person is on medication for depression or any other mental health issue they really need to be working with an experienced NLP Practitioner who also has therapeutic training. To be clear, NLP Practitioner certification is not enough on its own for someone to be a therapist.

NLP Practitioner does give you the tools to work with people who want to improve their confidence, self-esteem, well-being etc. It is a great tool to use in a coaching practice or in the workplace generally.

It is a great foundation for therapy and can certainly lead to working with therapeutic populations.

So what to do if you are an NLP Practitioner wanting to work as a therapist?

Here are some suggestions:

  1. Make sure you have a supervisor, usually your NLP Trainer or NLP Master Trainer can provide this. Having a supervisor is basic good professional practice. I offer my own students the chance to attend a regular supervision group and they can book individual sessions with me either in person or via skype.
  2. Keep a reflective learning log to continue learning from your own experiences.
  3. Attend regular further training beyond NLP Master Practitioner and Hypnotherapy. Attend conferences and specialist workshops in fields you are interested in. I still do this myself, for instance this month I’m attending a workshop with Connie Rae Andreas.
  4. Attend regular practice groups and peer supervision/practice groups. Remember you can always set one up if there is nothing based near you.
  5. Be clear about your own experience and expertise. What do you feel comfortable handling? Reality check yourself, specifically what tools and knowledge do you have? Put the boundaries of the type of client you are qualified to work with in your advertising.
  6. If you are working with a client and you are not sure what to do, seek supervision and/or refer the client to a more experienced practitioner.
